Nick Matthew

Nick Matthew grew up playing squash here at the Hallamshire and has continued on to world success, dominating tournaments all over the globe throughout his career. In 2012, Nick became the first Englishman to win the British Open 3 times after winning his final match 3-0 against opponent Ramy Ashour at the O2 in London. Nick previously won this championship in 2006 and 2009. It was in 2010 that Nick reached his career high-ranking of world number 1, it was also in this year that he won Gold in both the men's singles and men's doubles at the Delhi Commonwealth Games. This double medal win was honoured in Sheffield when Sheffield City Council held a Civic Reception in recognition of this achievement. It is astounding to think our club has a world squash champion and a Wimbledon Doubles Champion, Jonny Marray, amongst our ranks.
