Gym Activities

Hallamshire's gym provides a wide range of classes and activities from the wildly energetic like the running club and aerobics, to the relaxing such as yoga and pilates.

At a glance...

Yoga

The well established and highly popular evening yoga classes led by Janet Siddall are always open to new members.  Places can be booked at the clubs main reception.  Mats are provided.

Times: Monday, 6:15-7:30pm or 7:45-9pm

A new daytime yoga course with Polly Carroll started in September and is aready proving popular with members.

Times: Thursday, 9:30-11:00am

Aerobics

This class takes place on the sprung surface of one of squash courts to allow for the potential impact of such activities on the joints. The class is led by Nancy Skinner and is always open to new members. Booking is not always essential.

Times: Wednesday, 10:00am-11:00am

Pilates

The recently introduced Pilates courses consist of 6 sessions and are taken by chartered physiotherapist, Liz Jowsey. The courses, aimed at improving core stability by strengthening muscles in the torso, buttocks and back, include an initial one-to-one consultation.

Junior Gym Club

This session gives 10-14 year olds the opportunity to use the gym's cardiovascular equipment. Each member receives a personal programme to follow and fill in as they go along. After each card is completed members receive a certificate and then move on to a more advanced programme. This session is supervised by two fitness instructors who assist in the safe and correct usage of the equipment and are also on hand for any questions and help the juniors may need.

Times: Saturday, 1:00pm-2:00pm or 2:00pm-3:00pm

Running Club

Anyone who enjoys a physical challenge should come along to this outdoor session. The course is approximately 4/5 miles led by an instructor but is open to variation on request. Sessions consist of:

  • Slow jog
  • Stretching
  • The main route
  • Cool-down and final stretching

Competitions

The Hallamshire gym also incorporates a competitive dimension into its day to day running to help keep everyone motivated. This takes the form of competitions and challenges designed by our own instructors as well as being involved in the promotion of national competitions such as 'sport relief' and 'race for life'. Ask in the gym for details.
