Gym Juniors
Unlike most gyms, juniors are welcome in the Hallamshire gym. From the age of 14 years juniors can become full members of the gym at a reduced rate, and from the age 10 can attend our weekly junior club on Saturday afternoons.
Juniors are important to us as members as we believe that it is essential to encourage a healthy lifestyle from a young age. Familiarising juniors to the gym environment early on will hopefully remove the intimidation factor of gym environments as a barrier to exercise in later life.
Junior Gym Club
The Hallamshire's junior gym club for 10-14 year olds is on a Saturday afternoon. There are two sessions due to popular demand plus extra midweek classes during school holidays. The Saturday sessions are 1pm-2pm and 2pm-3pm.
Before enrolling, each junior will need to undergo a health screen. This includes measuring the your child's blood pressure, height and weight along with a questionnaire relating to their medical history. Parents do not need to stay for this appointment but are welcome to if they wish to do so. This can usually be done before the class but may need to be provisionally booked.
On the day each junior will receive a programme card to follow and fill in as they go along. After each programme card is completed they will receive a certificate of achievement and a new, more advanced programme. Programmes will consist of warm-up, stretching, cardiovascular training and cool-down.
For safety reasons weight equipment is not used in the programmes but by using the cardiovascular machines children will increase fitness, stamina, muscle tone, strength and performance for other sports.
The junior club is supervised by two fitness instructors who assist in the safe and correct usage of equipment. They are also there for any questions or help your children may need.
Each child will need to bring the following...
- Towel
- Trainers
- Gym kit (tshirt & shorts or leggings)
- Plenty of energy!
Junior gym must be pre-book at main reception as there is a maximum of ten places per class. Existing junior members of the club (i.e. tennis, squash) have priority when booking places, being allowed to book up to two weeks in advance. Non members can book a week in advance.
