NICK MATTHEW AMBASSADORIAL ROLE UPDATE section closed section open

NICK MATTHEW AMBASSADORIAL ROLE UPDATE

It is nearly a year since Nick took up his paid Ambassadorial role at Hallamshire so the Board wished to take this opportunity to update members on some of the events Nick has been involved in so far.

February 2016 saw the launch of the One Health sponsored Nick Matthew Academy with the unveiling of Court One Health and the new junior corridor at the club ,which was covered live by both BBC and ITV. Following on from the Media launch Nick promoted a club members' night where Academy players were able to hit with World Champion, Laura Massaro, as well as top professionals, Chris Simpson and Greg Lobban.
In April a move was made to form stronger links with the Universities when the Varsity squash trophy was named after Nick's Academy and played for at Hallamshire.
In May a programme was launched to attend school assemblies showing videos of Nick playing, encouraging pupils to take up squash for the first time.
Another aim is to encourage more Nick Matthew Academy juniors to participate in tournaments nationwide . With this in mind an annual event versus the Abbeydale Academy has been established giving some juniors their first taste of competitive action.
Also, led by Sam Gardiner, Nick's Academy has created an annual squash trophy played for at Hallamshire by both primary and secondary schools in the city.
Nick's presence for certain matches in Hallamshire's Yorkshire League team has allowed our members to see world class squash at the club and has been well supported with large crowds . He also hosted the club's Annual Dinner alongside BBC presenter Dan Walker.
As far as his playing schedule allows Nick attends scholarship and coaches meetings and keeps in touch with Board and Management helping in contacts with the sport's governing body and advising on matters such as tournaments , court maintenance etc. Being able to use Nick's name, images and achievements to promote the club is a major point in attracting new members to Hallamshire.

The Nick Matthew Academy is based at Hallamshire for further information contact Neil Guirey   neil@apexprogramme.co.uk

 Hallamshire - 29th July - UK Racketball

It is important to remember that UK-Racketball Series events are designed to be inclusive. Although the A grade does attract the best racketball players in the country the events really are for players of all ages and abilities. We have never had a competitor who felt they were not good enough for an event when they took part.

A Grade – County, national or good club player
B Grade – Regular club player
Women’s – All ages and abilities, these events have a great range of players which makes for a fun
and competitive day.
Over 40’s – For players over the age of 40
Over 50’s - For players over the age of 50
Over 60’s – For players over the age of 60
Beginner – This is for players who have recently started racketball. Players who have previously
played squash to a high level and have now started playing racketball may be better off in the A or B grade. To maintain a fun atmosphere for this grade, only trophies will be awarded to the winners however there will also be a reduced entry fee of just £10.

If you are unsure which category to enter please feel free to contact Mark Fuller directly on 07846067505 or email us at info@uk-racketball.com and we will be happy to advise you.

If entries to a category are not sufficient grades may be merged, however all participants will always be informed in advance and they will have a choice if they would still like to play, this has never happened in the last three years.
